What is the difference between OpenEduCat Community and Enterprise?
OpenEduCat Community is the free, open-source edition (LGPL-3 licence) that you self-host on your own infrastructure. It covers the core student information system, admissions, attendance, exams, fees and library. Enterprise is a paid subscription that adds the AI suite, the full LMS, central gradebook with GPA / CBCS / OBE / OMR, online quizzes with anti-cheating and proctoring, live virtual classroom, hostel, transport, alumni, placement, thesis, CRM, parent portal and KPI dashboards. Enterprise also includes vendor support and optional managed hosting.
Is OpenEduCat Community truly free?
Yes. The Community edition is released under the LGPL-3 open-source licence and is free to download, install, modify and self-host with no per-user or per-student licence fees. You only pay for your own infrastructure (servers, backups, staff time). The source code is publicly available so there is no vendor lock-in.
Can I upgrade from Community to Enterprise later?
Yes. Both editions share the same core data model, so you can start on Community and migrate to Enterprise without losing data. The migration adds Enterprise capabilities on top of your existing database and switches the core to its Enterprise replacement where applicable.
How many functional areas does OpenEduCat cover?
OpenEduCat covers 28 functional areas of an educational institution, from admissions and student records to hostel and convocation. Community fully covers 6 of them and ships a basic version for 7 more. The remaining 15 areas β including the AI suite, LMS, central gradebook, hostel, transport, alumni, placement, thesis and CRM β are Enterprise-only.
Which AI features are only available in Enterprise?
The entire AI suite is Enterprise-only: AI essay and assignment grading, rubric and quiz generation, lesson planning, report-card comment generation, note summarising, and the at-risk student early-warning model. It integrates with the gradebook, LMS, and student information system.
Does Community include a learning management system (LMS)?
No. The full LMS β online course builder, SCORM and H5P content support, paid course sales, forums, gamification and surveys β is Enterprise-only. Community institutions can still use Community for admissions, attendance, exams, fees, library and the core student information system.
