Mobile App for Educational Institutions

The app supports multi-child profiles under a single parent account. A parent whose children attend different schools within the same OpenEduCat instance sees all children listed in the app. Tapping a child's name shows that student's grades, attendance, timetable, assignments, and fee status. Push notifications are labeled with the child's name so parents can distinguish between alerts. If your district runs separate OpenEduCat instances per campus (uncommon but possible), the parent would need a login per instance. For single-instance districts, which is the standard deployment, one login covers all children regardless of campus.

The app caches the user's most recent data on the device: timetables, grade summaries, attendance history, downloaded course materials, class rosters (for faculty), and recent messages. This cached data is accessible without an internet connection. When a faculty member marks attendance offline, common in portable classrooms, gymnasiums, or outdoor facilities with poor Wi-Fi. The record is stored locally and synced to the server automatically when connectivity resumes. The sync uses conflict resolution so that if two changes were made to the same record (unlikely but possible), the server-side record takes precedence and the user is notified.

Yes. The mobile app respects the same role-based access control configured in OpenEduCat's web admin panel. If your institution uses four roles (student, parent, faculty, staff) each role sees only the modules and data assigned to it. You can further customize within roles: for example, allowing faculty to see grade entry and attendance but hiding leave management if that workflow stays on desktop. Feature visibility changes made in the web admin panel apply to the mobile app immediately without requiring an app update or device-side configuration.

Push notifications support priority levels. Emergency alerts (early dismissals, campus closures, safety incidents) bypass quiet hours and deliver with high-priority flags that keep the notification visible on lock screens until acknowledged. Routine notifications (grade postings, fee reminders, event announcements) respect the quiet hours each user has configured. Administrators can send emergency notifications from the OpenEduCat web interface or from the admin view in the mobile app itself. Delivery receipts show which users received the notification, which opened it, and which have not yet seen it, giving administrators real-time visibility into whether an emergency message has reached the community.

The iOS and Android apps are licensed separately. The Android app is $839 per year and the iOS app is $1,119 per year under the standard annual licensing model. Two-year and one-time purchase options are also available at reduced effective rates. The license covers unlimited users within your institution. There is no per-student or per-parent fee on top of the app license. Both apps connect to the same OpenEduCat instance, so your data, users, and configuration work identically across platforms. Most institutions deploy both to cover their full parent, student, faculty, and staff population across Apple and Android devices.
