Gradebook Built for Brazil's 0–10 Scale and BNCC Curriculum

Brazilian schools operate a three-tier classification — Aprovado (≥7.0), Em Recuperação (5.0–6.9), Reprovado (<5.0) — that most international software cannot model. OpenEduCat stores grades natively on the 0–10 float scale, triggers recovery exam workflows automatically, and generates Boletim Escolar PDFs aligned with MEC and LDB requirements.

Grading Scales

Pre-configured grade bands shipped with the Brazil module. No manual setup required.

GradePoints / RangeDescription
Aprovadomédia ≥ 7.0Direct pass. A student averaging 7.5 across bimesters is promoted to the next year without any remediation step. The system marks the subject Aprovado immediately when the threshold is reached.
Em Recuperaçãomédia 5.0–6.9Recovery exam required. The system automatically creates a pending recovery examination record and recomputes the final resultado after the grade is entered.
Reprovadomédia < 5.0Year retention. No recovery exam is offered. The student is flagged for repetição per LDB Article 24.

What the Brazil Module Does

Country-specific features that go beyond the core gradebook engine.

1

Brazilian 0–10 Float Scale

Native `br_nota` field stores grades as float (7.5, 6.3). Percentage inputs are converted automatically. Bimestral and annual averages compute at subject level without additional configuration.

2

Em Recuperação Workflow

Students scoring 5.0–6.9 are automatically placed in Em Recuperação. The system creates a pending recovery examination, assigns it to the teacher, and recomputes resultado after the recovery grade is entered.

3

BNCC Subject Area Alignment

Subjects are tagged with BNCC Áreas do Conhecimento (Linguagens, Matemática, Ciências da Natureza, Ciências Humanas, Ensino Religioso) for curriculum reporting and INEP submission.

4

Boletim Escolar PDF

Standard Brazilian school report card with bimestre breakdown, média, resultado status, and attendance. Generated directly from live gradebook data — no spreadsheet export.

5

Bimestral and Trimestral Periods

Configurable for 4-period bimestral or 3-period trimestral grading per the school's regimento escolar, with correct period weighting in the annual média.

Re-Attempt Policy

Recuperação Examination Policy

Students in the 5.0–6.9 Em Recuperação band are entitled to a recovery examination per LDB Art. 24. After the recovery grade is entered, the sistema recomputes the final resultado. Students who raise their score to ≥5.0 are promoted; those remaining below 5.0 are Reprovado.

How re-attempts affect the transcript

  • The active grade (counted in GPA) is marked with an asterisk (*)
  • Superseded or excluded grades are annotated with their status code
  • All attempts appear on the transcript for full academic transparency
  • Cleared, condoned, compensated, and exempted backlogs do not block graduation

Transcript Formats

Official academic record formats generated by the Brazil module.

Boletim Escolar: Bimestral grade breakdown

média, resultado, attendance — standard Brazilian format for parent distribution and INEP filing.

QR Verification Available

Install the secure bridge module to add QR codes with SHA-256 integrity hashes to every transcript. Employers and other institutions scan the code to verify the transcript is authentic and unmodified.

Honours & Classification

How graduates are classified under the Brazil system.

ClassificationThreshold
Aprovadomédia ≥ 7.0 — direct promotion
Aprovado (pós-recuperação)média ≥ 5.0 after recovery exam
Reprovadomédia < 5.0 — year retention

Regulatory Alignment

BNCC (Base Nacional Comum Curricular, 2017/2018), LDB (Lei de Diretrizes e Bases, Lei 9.394/96), MEC (Ministério da Educação)

The Brazil gradebook module pre-configures grading scales, assessment templates, re-attempt policies, and transcript formats to align with the requirements set by BNCC (Base Nacional Comum Curricular, 2017/2018), LDB (Lei de Diretrizes e Bases, Lei 9.394/96), MEC (Ministério da Educação). The data structures, computation rules, and report formats follow the standards your accreditation body expects to see during institutional audits.

Grade distributions, pass rates, GPA trends, and classification statistics can all be exported to Excel for submission during accreditation reviews. The structured data makes it straightforward to pull the specific metrics your accreditation criteria require.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the Brazil gradebook module.

LDB Article 24 mandates a recovery examination for students scoring 5.0–6.9. A two-tier system at 7.0 would incorrectly retain students legally entitled to recovery. The three-tier model is built into OpenEduCat's data layer.
