Dutch School Gradebook — Cijfer Scale with SE/CE Dual Tracking and Herkansing

Dutch secondary schools grade on the 1–10 cijfer scale where 6 (Voldoende) is the minimum pass. The complexity lies in combining School Examen (SE) and Centraal Examen (CE) scores into the final combined cijfer, managing Eindexamen diploma eligibility rules, and tracking herkansing (resit) attempts. OpenEduCat handles all five school tracks (VWO through VMBO) with a single installation.

Barèmes de Notation

Tranches de notes préconfigurées livrées avec le module Netherlands. Aucune configuration manuelle requise.

NotePoints / PlageDescription
10 — Uitstekend (Excellent)10, ≥95%The maximum mark. Rare in practice — Dutch grading culture reserves 10 for truly exceptional performance.
8–9 — Goed / Zeer Goed8–9, ≥75%Good to very good performance. Strong band for university-track students (VWO).
6 — Voldoende (Sufficient)6 = minimum passThe critical pass threshold. A 6 means "sufficient". Combined cijfer below 6 triggers herkansing consideration. The Eindexamen diploma requires meeting the compensatory rules above this threshold.
5 — Bijna Voldoende5, borderline failAlmost sufficient. This grade falls in the herkansing zone — the student may be eligible to resit the CE component to improve the combined cijfer.
1–4 — Onvoldoende (Insufficient)1–4Insufficient. A 4 in the CE (below the legal minimum for that component) automatically fails the Eindexamen diploma regardless of compensatory rules.

Ce que le Module Netherlands Fait

Fonctionnalités spécifiques au pays qui vont au-delà du moteur de base du carnet de notes.

1

SE + CE Dual-Component Tracking

School Examen (SE) and Centraal Examen (CE) scores are stored as separate fields. The combined cijfer is computed per the standard Dutch formula. SE and CE can be updated independently without affecting each other's record.

2

Eindexamen Diploma Eligibility Engine

Validates the full diploma eligibility matrix: CE component average ≥ 5.5, no individual CE grade below 4, compensatory rounding rules. Students are flagged as Pass, Fail, or Herkansing Zone in real time.

3

Five School Track Configurations

VWO (pre-university), HAVO (higher general), VMBO-TL, VMBO-GL, and VMBO-BL each have track-specific subject sets, eligibility thresholds, and diploma templates.

4

Herkansing (Resit) Management

Resit attempts tracked per CE subject. After a herkansing result is entered, the system recomputes the combined cijfer and re-evaluates diploma eligibility automatically.

5

Eindexamen Diploma PDF

Official-style diploma listing combined cijfers per subject and confirmed diploma level, in DUO-compliant format for distribution.

Politique de Reprise d'Examen

Herkansing (Centraal Examen Resit)

Students in the herkansing zone (combined cijfer 5.0–5.9 or one subject failure within compensatory margin) may resit one CE subject. The better result of the original and resit is used in the final combined cijfer calculation. The system stores both attempts and automatically applies the better result.

School Examen (SE) is assessed internally by teachers throughout the year. Centraal Examen (CE) is the national written examination. The combined cijfer is computed from both using the standard Dutch formula. OpenEduCat stores both components separately so corrections to either propagate correctly.
