West African School Gradebook — WAEC A1–F9 with Credit Tracking and CA Integration
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) A1–F9 scale governs secondary school certification across Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, and other member states. OpenEduCat enforces the grade boundaries natively, tracks credit counts (A1–C6) automatically, integrates Continuous Assessment with terminal examination weighting, and generates WAEC-compliant report cards.
Notenskalen
Vorkonfigurierte Notenbänder, die mit dem Modul West Africa geliefert werden. Keine manuelle Einrichtung erforderlich.
| Note | Punkte / Bereich | Beschreibung |
|---|---|---|
| A1 — Excellent | ≥75% | Highest WAEC grade. Counts as a credit (A1–C6) for university eligibility purposes. A student scoring 82 in English earns A1. |
| B2–B3 — Very Good / Good | 70–74% / 65–69% | Strong performance bands. Both count as credits for IPTA/university minimum credit requirements. |
| C4–C6 — Credit | 60–64% / 55–59% / 50–54% | C6 (≥50%) is the minimum credit threshold for university eligibility. Five credits including English and Mathematics at C6 or better are required for most university programmes. |
| D7–E8 — Pass | 45–49% / 40–44% | Passing grades but below the credit threshold. D7 and E8 count as passes but not credits for university minimum requirements. |
| F9 — Fail | <40% | WAEC failure. The subject must be retaken in a subsequent sitting. The `wa_sitting_number` field tracks whether this is a first or second WAEC attempt. |
Was das Modul West Africa leistet
Länderspezifische Funktionen, die über die Kern-Notengebungs-Engine hinausgehen.
WAEC A1–F9 Grade Boundary Enforcement
Grade codes are assigned automatically from raw marks using the published WAEC boundary table. No manual grade code entry is required — the system prevents boundary errors that commonly occur in manual grading.
Credit and Pass Counters
`wa_credit_count` (grades A1–C6, ≥50%) and `wa_pass_count` are computed automatically across all subjects. University eligibility can be assessed at any point in the academic year, not just at examination time.
CA + Examination Component Integration
School internal Continuous Assessment (CA) marks are mapped to WAEC component weightings so the terminal grade is computed consistently with WAEC methodology. CA and exam components are stored as separate fields.
WAEC Sitting Tracker
`wa_sitting_number` records whether a result is from a student's first or second WAEC attempt. This is required for accurate transcript reporting and aggregation logic for resitting candidates.
At-Risk Alerting
Students carrying subjects below C6 at mid-term are flagged automatically, giving teachers and pastoral staff time to intervene before examination entry deadlines.
Wiederholungsrichtlinie
WAEC Resit — Second Sitting
Students who fail or earn D7/E8 in any WAEC subject may register for the next WAEC sitting. The `wa_sitting_number` field distinguishes first and second attempts. The transcript shows both sittings; the most recent result is used for current university eligibility assessment.
