Korean High School Gradebook — Stanine 석차등급 with NEIS Compliance
South Korean high schools use a cohort-relative 9-level stanine system (석차등급) where the same raw score earns a different grade depending on where it falls in the class distribution. OpenEduCat computes 석차등급 from percentile rank automatically, stores the required 원점수/평균/표준편차 statistics, tracks 이수단위 credit accumulation, and generates 학생부 (Student Records) in NEIS-aligned format for university admission.
Notenskalen
Vorkonfigurierte Notenbänder, die mit dem Modul South Korea geliefert werden. Keine manuelle Einrichtung erforderlich.
| Note | Punkte / Bereich | Beschreibung |
|---|---|---|
| Grade 1 (상위 4%) | Top 4% of cohort | Highest stanine. A student in the top 4% of their cohort in Physics earns Grade 1 regardless of the absolute raw score. In a high-achieving class, Grade 1 might require 95+; in a weaker cohort it could be lower. |
| Grade 2 (상위 11%) | Top 4–11% of cohort | Second stanine band. The system recalculates all stanines when new scores are entered or cohort enrolment changes. |
| Grade 5 (중위 20%) | Middle 40–60% of cohort | Middle band. A Grade 5 from a highly competitive cohort represents better absolute performance than a Grade 5 from a weaker cohort — context that universities evaluate using 원점수 and 표준편차. |
| Grade 9 (하위 4%) | Bottom 4% of cohort | Lowest stanine. Students at Grade 9 are automatically flagged for academic support intervention. The system stores their 원점수 alongside the stanine for teacher reference. |
Was das Modul South Korea leistet
Länderspezifische Funktionen, die über die Kern-Notengebungs-Engine hinausgehen.
Cohort-Relative Stanine Computation
`kr_stanine` is derived from percentile rank among enrolled peers in the same subject and semester. It updates automatically when new scores are entered or cohort composition changes — no manual recalculation.
원점수/평균/표준편차 Reporting
Raw score (원점수), cohort mean (평균), and standard deviation (표준편차) are stored and displayed alongside the stanine on all official records as required by NEIS and university admission offices.
이수단위 Credit Accumulation
Each subject carries an 이수단위 (credit unit) value. The system accumulates totals across semesters and flags any student whose accumulated credits fall below the minimum required for high school completion.

Cohort Recalculation on Score Updates
Because stanines are cohort-relative, entering or correcting a score for one student triggers recalculation for all students in that cohort. OpenEduCat handles this automatically, ensuring consistent stanine grades across the class at any point in time.
