Pacific Technical Institute
Built Custom Competency Tracking for 40+ Trade Programs
O Desafio
Pacific Technical Institute offers 42 trade and technical certificate programs with 2,800 students. Their previous system treated all programs like traditional academic courses with letter grades, which failed to capture the competency-based progression that accreditors and employers require. Instructors tracked skill sign-offs on paper checklists, certification exam scheduling was manual, and placement rate data for accreditation reports was compiled from alumni surveys with poor response rates.
- No system support for competency-based progression tracking across trade programs
- Instructor skill sign-offs existed only on paper checklists prone to loss
- Certification exam scheduling was a manual spreadsheet operation
- Accreditation placement rate data relied on unreliable alumni surveys
- Industry partners had no portal to post apprenticeship and job opportunities
A Solução
Pacific Technical deployed OpenEduCat with custom competency matrices for each of their 42 programs. Each skill has defined proficiency levels that instructors assess digitally. Certification exam dates sync with external testing bodies, and an employer portal lets industry partners post opportunities and view aggregate program outcomes. Placement tracking is automated through employer verification.
