Turkish Bütünleme Resit Exam — YÖK Reattempt Policy
The Bütünleme is Turkey's university-level resit examination offered at the end of each semester to students who fail their final exams. Governed by YÖK Higher Education Law No. 2547, eligibility requires meeting minimum attendance and earning DD, FD, or FF grades. Students with NA (absent) grades are not eligible. This page explains eligibility by grade, how the Bütünleme result affects the CGPA, YÖK regulations, and how OpenEduCat automates the complete workflow.
Bütünleme Eligibility by Grade
Which grades qualify for the Bütünleme exam at Turkish universities.
| Final Grade | Bütünleme Eligible | Reason | Bütünleme Action |
|---|---|---|---|
| AA (4.0) | No | Passed with highest grade; no resit needed or available | Not applicable |
| BA–BB (3.5–3.0) | No (at most institutions) | Passed above DD threshold; Bütünleme not offered for passing grades at most universities | Not applicable; some universities allow optional Bütünleme to improve grade |
| CB–CC (2.5–2.0) | No (typically) | Passed; above mandatory Bütünleme threshold | Not applicable; optional improvement at some institutions |
| DC (1.5) | Yes — mandatory at most institutions | Below comfortable pass; YÖK framework typically requires Bütünleme for DC | Bütünleme grade replaces DC; final result may raise CGPA if better |
| DD (1.0) | Yes — mandatory | Minimum passing grade; student strongly advised or required to sit Bütünleme | Bütünleme grade replaces DD; if Bütünleme below DD, remains at DD at some institutions |
| FD (0.5) | Yes — eligible if attendance met | Near-fail; must have met minimum attendance to sit Bütünleme | Bütünleme grade replaces FD if higher; some institutions use average of FD and Bütünleme |
| FF (0.0) | Yes — eligible if attendance met and mark ≥40% at many institutions | Failed; Bütünleme available if minimum mark threshold (usually 40%) was reached | Bütünleme grade replaces FF; if passed, course is cleared. If failed again, course must be repeated. |
| NA (Absent) | No | Failed due to attendance; Bütünleme requires minimum attendance to be met | Not eligible; course must be repeated with attendance requirement met |
Eligibility rules follow the general YÖK framework. Individual university Sınav Yönetmelikleri (Examination Regulations) may specify different grade thresholds.
YÖK Regulations Governing Bütünleme
Key regulatory requirements from YÖK Higher Education Law No. 2547 and associated university examination regulations.
Bütünleme Eligibility Threshold
Under YÖK Higher Education Law (No. 2547), students who earn FD or FF grades may sit a Bütünleme (make-up/resit) examination. Eligibility typically requires the student to have met the minimum attendance requirement (generally 70% for lectures, 80% for labs). Students absent (NA grade) are not eligible for Bütünleme.
Grade Replacement Rule
The Bütünleme result replaces the original exam grade at most Turkish universities. The semester course grade is then recalculated using the new exam mark combined with the in-semester coursework component. The CGPA updates automatically once Bütünleme grades are published.
Maximum Bütünleme Attempts
YÖK regulations allow one Bütünleme exam per course per semester. If the student fails the Bütünleme, they must re-register for the course in the following semester. Continuous failure of the same course triggers Academic Senate review. Maximum programme duration (2× standard duration under YÖK Law 2547) sets the overall time limit.
Sınav Takvimi (Exam Calendar)
YÖK requires universities to publish the Bütünleme exam calendar alongside the regular semester exam calendar. Bütünleme exams are typically held 1–2 weeks after regular exam results are announced. Students must register for the Bütünleme within the published deadline.
