Indonesia Diploma Grading

Indonesian D3 (Diploma III) and D4 (Sarjana Terapan) programmes use the same DIKTI 9-grade scale and IPK calculation method as S1 undergraduate degrees. D3 requires 108 SKS minimum; D4 requires 144 SKS minimum. Graduation honours (Predikat Kelulusan) are awarded as Dengan Pujian (IPK 3.51+), Sangat Memuaskan (2.76+), or Memuaskan (2.00+). BAN-PT accreditation applies to all diploma-level programmes.

DIKTI 9-Grade Scale for Diploma Programmes

D3 and D4 programmes use the same grade scale as S1. IPK is computed as a credit-weighted average (SKS) across all semesters.

GradeGrade PointsPercentage RangeClassificationNotes
A4.0085–100%Sangat Baik (Excellent)Top grade. Required for Predikat Dengan Pujian (Cum Laude) when IPK reaches 3.51+ at graduation. Applied identically across D3, D4, and S1 programmes.
A–3.7580–84%Sangat Baik MinusNear-excellent. Still very strong; contributes positively toward Sangat Memuaskan predikat threshold (IPK 2.76+).
B+3.5075–79%Baik Plus (Good Plus)Above average. Sufficient for Predikat Sangat Memuaskan if cumulative IPK stays above 2.76.
B3.0070–74%Baik (Good)Standard passing performance. Most diploma employers use IPK 3.0+ as a minimum filter for competitive technical roles.
B–2.7565–69%Baik MinusAbove the minimum IPK for Memuaskan (satisfactory) graduation predikat. Still within acceptable range for most diploma-level job applications.
C+2.5060–64%Cukup Plus (Average Plus)Below standard for competitive applications. Cumulative IPK may drop toward the Memuaskan range.
C2.0055–59%Cukup (Average)Minimum passing grade at most institutions. Course credit awarded. IPK at or below 2.0 may indicate academic difficulty.
D1.0040–54%Kurang (Below Average)Below minimum pass at some institutions, check individual institution policy. Course may need to be retaken.
E0.00Below 40%Gagal (Fail)No credit awarded. Course must be retaken. Significantly impacts IPS for the semester and cumulative IPK.

D3 vs D4 Programme Requirements

D3 and D4 share the same grade scale but differ in credit requirements, programme duration, KKNI level, and pathways to further study.

01

D3 (Diploma III)

108 SKS minimum3 years (6 semesters)

D3 programmes are 3-year vocational diploma programmes equivalent to Indonesia's KKNI Level 5. Minimum 108 SKS required for graduation. Maximum study period is 5 years (10 semesters), students failing to complete within this period may be dismissed. D3 graduates can apply for lateral entry (Alih Jenjang) into S1 programmes, typically entering Year 3 with credit recognition.

02

D4 (Diploma IV / Sarjana Terapan)

144 SKS minimum4 years (8 semesters)

D4 (also called Sarjana Terapan or Applied Bachelor) is a 4-year vocational programme at KKNI Level 6, equivalent to S1 (academic Bachelor) in the Indonesian qualifications framework. Minimum 144 SKS required. Maximum study period is 7 years (14 semesters). D4 graduates carry the same Bachelor's degree status as S1 graduates and can apply directly to S2 (Master's) programmes. The D4 certificate denotes the applied / vocational track alongside the KKNI Level 6 designation.

Predikat Kelulusan (Graduation Honours)

Three graduation predikat tiers are awarded based on the final IPK, applying equally to D3 and D4 diploma graduates.

1

Dengan Pujian (Cum Laude)

IPK 3.51 or above

Highest graduation honour. Printed on the diploma certificate and transcript. Typically requires no failed courses and completion within the standard programme duration (6 semesters for D3, 8 for D4). Some institutions additionally require all A grades in practical/thesis components for Dengan Pujian at diploma level.

2

Sangat Memuaskan (Very Satisfactory)

IPK 2.76 to 3.50

Second honours tier. Awarded to the majority of diploma graduates who maintain a cumulative IPK above 2.76. Printed on the degree certificate. Most professional certifications and government recruitment in Indonesia accept Sangat Memuaskan as the standard expected graduation predikat.

3

Memuaskan (Satisfactory)

IPK 2.00 to 2.75

Minimum passing predikat for graduation. Students whose cumulative IPK remains between 2.00 and 2.75 receive Memuaskan on their diploma. This is the minimum predikat required for graduation at most D3 and D4 programmes. Some employers and government agencies require Sangat Memuaskan or higher for competitive selection.

How OpenEduCat Supports Indonesia Diploma Grading

DIKTI grade scale, SKS tracking, IPS/IPK computation, Predikat Kelulusan, and maximum study period monitoring, built for Indonesian diploma institutions.

1

DIKTI 9-grade scale for D3 and D4 programmes

OpenEduCat configures the full DIKTI 9-grade scale (A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, D, E) with corresponding grade points (4.0 to 0.0) for diploma programmes. The configuration is identical to S1, enabling a single institution to manage D3, D4, and S1 programmes under a unified grading framework. Grade bands and pass marks can be customised per faculty if institution regulations require.

2

SKS credit tracking and graduation eligibility

OpenEduCat tracks SKS (Satuan Kredit Semester) earned per student and accumulates them toward the programme minimum (108 SKS for D3, 144 SKS for D4). The graduation audit report shows total SKS earned, SKS by category (mandatory, elective, practicum), and remaining credits. Students who have not met the minimum SKS are blocked from registering for the Final Project (Tugas Akhir) or graduation ceremony.

3

IPS and IPK calculation per semester

Indeks Prestasi Semester (IPS) is computed each semester as the credit-weighted average of grade points for that semester. Indeks Prestasi Kumulatif (IPK) is the cumulative average across all semesters. OpenEduCat updates both IPS and IPK automatically after each semester result entry. Students and academic advisors can view IPS and IPK trend charts in the self-service portal.

4

Predikat Kelulusan computation at graduation

Graduation predikat is computed from the final IPK: Dengan Pujian (3.51+), Sangat Memuaskan (2.76-3.50), Memuaskan (2.00-2.75). OpenEduCat applies the configured predikat thresholds during the graduation audit and prints the predikat on the diploma certificate and academic transcript. The system also checks whether the student completed within the standard programme duration, which may affect Dengan Pujian eligibility depending on the institution's policy.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about D3 and D4 diploma grading, SKS credits, IPK, Predikat Kelulusan, and BAN-PT accreditation in Indonesia.

D3 (Diploma III) is a 3-year vocational programme requiring a minimum of 108 SKS credits, classified at KKNI Level 5. D4 (Diploma IV or Sarjana Terapan) is a 4-year applied Bachelor programme requiring a minimum of 144 SKS credits, classified at KKNI Level 6, the same level as an academic S1 Bachelor's degree. D4 graduates can apply directly to S2 (Master's) programmes without additional bridging. D3 graduates applying to S2 must first complete a Bridging Programme or earn an S1 degree, unless their institution has a specific articulation agreement.
