Canada University Transcript
Canada has no national transcript standard, each university issues its own format with its own GPA scale. Common elements include course codes, credit hours, letter grades, term GPA, and cumulative GPA. Official transcripts are delivered digitally through MyCreds (400+ institutions) or Parchment, and internationally recognised through WES Canada evaluation.

Transcript Format by University
GPA scales and format vary significantly across Canadian universities. No two institutions use identical conventions.
| University | GPA Scale | Grade Format | Request Platform |
|---|---|---|---|
| University of Toronto | 4.0 (Letter grade + GPA point) | A+ to F letter grades with percentage equivalents | ACORN portal → Parchment / MyCreds |
| McGill University | 4.0 (A = 85-100% = 4.0) | Letter grades A through F; percentage thresholds differ from Ontario | Minerva student portal → MyCreds |
| University of British Columbia | 4.33 (A+ = 4.33) | Letter grades; % mark shown in parentheses | Student Service Centre → MyCreds or Parchment |
| University of Waterloo | 4.0; co-op work terms listed separately | Letter grades with numerical grade equivalents | Quest student portal → MyCreds |

WES Canada Evaluation of Canadian Transcripts
Key points for Canadian graduates applying internationally or seeking immigration credential assessments.
WES Canada vs WES USA, two separate organisations
WES Canada (based in Toronto) evaluates credentials for Canadian immigration (Express Entry, Provincial Nominee Programs) and Canadian post-secondary admission. WES USA (New York) evaluates for US admission and employment. Documents sent to one cannot be used by the other.
Requesting transcripts for WES
WES requires your institution to send the official transcript directly to WES, not through MyCreds or Parchment unless the specific WES integration is enabled. Most Canadian universities have a dedicated WES delivery option in the registrar portal or accept MyCreds-to-WES transfers where WES is a connected institution.
CEGEP transcripts evaluated separately
Quebec CEGEP (Collège d'enseignement général et professionnel) transcripts are evaluated as a pre-university qualification, not as a university-level qualification. WES Canada evaluates CEGEP separately from the university degree. CEGEP transcripts are obtained from the Ministère de l'Éducation du Québec (MEQ) or the CEGEP itself.
GPA conversion across Canadian scales
Canada has no single national GPA scale. WES evaluators handle each institution's scale using published conversion tables. Carleton's 12-point scale, Ontario universities' 4.0 scale, and McGill's 4.0 scale with different percentage thresholds are all converted to a standardised US 4.0 equivalent for the WES evaluation report.
How to Request a Canadian Transcript
Four steps from student portal to certified digital delivery via MyCreds.
Log in to your student or alumni portal
Most Canadian universities use ACORN (Toronto), Minerva (McGill), Quest (Waterloo), or a generic Banner-based student portal. Look for "Enrolment & Academics" or "Academic History" to find the transcript ordering link.
Select delivery via MyCreds or Parchment
MyCreds is a Canadian digital credential platform used by 400+ post-secondary institutions. It delivers certified electronic transcripts that are tamper-evident and verifiable by recipients. Parchment is available at many institutions as an alternative. Both platforms support direct delivery to Canadian and international institutions.
Pay the fee and specify recipient
Fees are typically CAD $10–30 per official transcript. Electronic delivery via MyCreds or Parchment takes 1–2 business days. Paper transcripts (sealed, signed) are mailed and take 5–10 business days plus transit. WES-bound transcripts require the WES application reference number.
OSAP compliance transcripts
If you received OSAP (Ontario Student Assistance Program) funding, your institution may request transcript confirmation for repayment or continuation eligibility reviews. These are handled through the Student Aid Ontario portal and do not require a separate fee.
How OpenEduCat Generates Canadian Transcripts
The Canada module supports multiple GPA scales, transfer credit blocks, MyCreds-compatible output, and academic standing notation per term.
Flexible GPA scale configuration
The Canada module supports multiple GPA scales (4.0, 4.33, 9.0 (some Ontario universities), and 12-point (Carleton)) configured per institution. Transcripts print the applicable scale and conversion key at the footer for WES and international evaluators.
Transfer credit block from other institutions
Transfer credits imported from other Canadian or international institutions are grouped in a transfer block. The sending institution name, course code, title, credits accepted, and grade (or T notation) are printed in a separate section before the first enrolled term.
MyCreds compatible digital output
Transcripts are generated as certified PDFs with the metadata and signature requirements compatible with MyCreds submission. Institutions connected to MyCreds can deliver official transcripts electronically to any of the 400+ member institutions without paper.
Academic standing notation per term
Academic standing (Good Standing, Dean's List, Probation, Required to Withdraw) is computed from the configured GPA thresholds and printed on the term footer. This follows the academic calendar standards required for OSAP eligibility and graduate admission.
