NAAC Accreditation & OpenEduCat

National Assessment and Accreditation Council

NAAC accredits higher education institutions across India on seven criteria, from teaching-learning and research to governance and student support. Each criterion requires specific data that your ERP should be generating as a matter of routine. OpenEduCat maps to all seven, so your IQAC team is not building spreadsheets the month before an assessment visit.

What NAAC Assesses

NAAC evaluates institutions on a 3.01 to 4.00 CGPA scale (after the 2017 revised framework) across seven criteria. The assessment combines a Self-Study Report (SSR) submitted by the institution with a peer team visit. The SSR requires quantitative data for each criterion , enrollment numbers, pass rates, placement statistics, faculty qualifications, financial health, alongside qualitative narratives.

The IQAC (Internal Quality Assurance Cell) is responsible for maintaining this data continuously and submitting the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) to NAAC each year. An ERP that does not generate these reports leaves the IQAC with manual data collection across departments, which is both slow and error-prone.

NAAC Criteria, OpenEduCat Mapping

What each criterion requires and which OpenEduCat features address it.

Criterion 1

Available Reports

Course outcome achievement rates, academic calendar adherence log

Criterion 2

Teaching-Learning & Evaluation

NAAC Requires

Attendance records, student performance data, CGPA/SGPA distribution, pass/fail rates, internal assessment records.

OpenEduCat Features

LMS tracks lesson delivery and engagement. Attendance module records daily attendance with biometric or manual entry. Gradebook computes SGPA/CGPA on the CBCS 10-point scale with all assessment components.

Available Reports

Attendance summary by department, CGPA distribution histogram, semester pass/fail rates, internal vs external mark comparison

Criterion 3

Research, Innovations & Extension

NAAC Requires

Faculty publication records, student research projects, thesis submissions, research funding.

NAAC-Specific Reports in OpenEduCat

These reports are generated directly from live system data, no manual aggregation.

Student Progression Report

Tracks the percentage of students advancing from one year/semester to the next, including students who cleared ATKT backlogs. Essential for Criterion 2 documentation.

CGPA Distribution Report

Histogram of CGPA bands across the graduating cohort. Shows the percentage of students in each classification band, First Class with Distinction, First Class, Second Class, Pass. Required for AQAR (Annual Quality Assurance Report) submissions.

Pass/Fail Rate Report

Semester-wise pass and fail rates by subject and department. NAAC assessors use this to evaluate teaching effectiveness under Criterion 2.

Placement Record Report

Number of students placed, companies visited, highest and average salary packages. Required for Criterion 5 student support documentation.

Consolidated list of faculty publications (journals, conferences, books) with ISSN/ISBN details. Required for Criterion 3 research output documentation.

NAAC uses the UGC CBCS grading scale

NAAC Criterion 2 (Teaching-Learning) reports draw from the same gradebook that implements the UGC Choice Based Credit System. See the full details of how OpenEduCat implements CBCS grading, ATKT, grace marks, and CCE evaluation.

Frequently Asked Questions, NAAC & OpenEduCat

Common questions from IQAC officers and academic administrators evaluating ERP systems for NAAC compliance.

OpenEduCat generates the underlying data for most SSR sections: student strength, attendance, pass/fail rates, CGPA distribution, placement records, faculty details, and financial summaries. Your IQAC team uses this data to populate the SSR templates. The SSR itself is a narrative document that your team writes; OpenEduCat provides the quantitative evidence that supports it.
