AI Multiple Choice Assessment Generator

Paste text or enter a learning objective

The teacher pastes a reading passage, textbook excerpt, or lecture notes, or simply types a learning objective. The AI analyses the content and identifies the key concepts, facts, relationships, and reasoning skills that can be assessed. For a 500-word science passage, the AI identifies 8-12 assessable concepts before generating any questions.

Select Bloom's level and number of questions

The teacher chooses the Bloom's taxonomy level (from Level 1 (recall) to Level 6 (evaluation)) and the number of questions. They can also mix levels: for example, 5 recall questions, 3 application questions, and 2 analysis questions. This controls the cognitive demand of the assessment without requiring the teacher to write questions at multiple levels manually.

Review and edit questions and distractors

The AI generates the questions with four answer choices each. The correct answer is marked and each distractor is labelled with the misconception it targets. The teacher reviews every question, edits any that are unclear, regenerates individual questions if needed, and approves the set. Distractors based on the most common student errors are flagged with a confidence score.

Export to PDF or LMS

The approved assessment exports as a formatted PDF with an answer key, as a CSV file for manual import, or as a QTI-compliant package for direct import into any LMS. Assessments saved to the OpenEduCat question bank are searchable by topic, standard, and Bloom's level for future reuse.

Bloom's Taxonomy Filter

The teacher selects which cognitive levels to target: Level 1 (Remember), Level 2 (Understand), Level 3 (Apply), Level 4 (Analyze), Level 5 (Evaluate), or Level 6 (Create). The AI generates questions that genuinely target the selected level, a Level 4 question requires students to break information into parts and identify relationships, not just recall facts.

Distractor Quality Score

Bad distractors are obviously wrong, students eliminate them without thinking. Good distractors represent plausible misconceptions that students actually hold. The AI generates distractors by identifying known misconceptions for each topic, labels each distractor with the misconception it targets, and assigns a quality score. Low-scoring distractors are flagged for the teacher to review.

Answer Key Generation

Every assessment includes a formatted answer key with the correct answer, an explanation for why it is correct, and an explanation for why each distractor is incorrect. Teachers can distribute the answer key after the assessment or use the explanations to run a whole-class debrief. The explanations are written in student-facing language.

Randomise Question Order

The AI generates multiple versions of the same assessment with questions and answer choices shuffled into different orders. For a class sitting the same assessment simultaneously, each student sees a different order, reducing copying without requiring the teacher to write separate assessments. Versions are automatically reconciled for grading.

LMS Export (CSV and QTI)

Assessments export in QTI 2.1 format, which is the international standard for e-assessment content. QTI packages import directly into any major LMS including Moodle, Canvas, Blackboard, and Google Classroom. CSV export is available for systems that use spreadsheet-based question import.
