Exam Management for Preschools
Preschools don't run sit-down exams — they run continuous observation against developmental milestones. Built for EYFS, HighScope, Reggio Emilia, Montessori, NAEYC, and the Indian NEP-2020 foundational-stage frameworks. Photo-rich learning journeys, parent-friendly reports, and zero standardized testing that nobody under 6 should sit.
Preschool exam management is observation-based assessment: teachers log evidence (photos, anecdotal notes, short videos) against developmental milestones in cognitive, language, motor, social-emotional, and physical domains. Frameworks include EYFS (UK), HighScope, Reggio Emilia, Montessori (international), NAEYC (US), and India's NEP-2020 foundational stage. The platform replaces paper portfolios and ad-hoc photo albums with a structured learning journey shared with parents.

Framework-Aligned Milestone Tracking
EYFS Early Learning Goals (7 areas, 17 ELGs), HighScope COR-Advantage, Reggio documentation, NAEYC observation-based assessment, and NEP-2020 Vidya Pravesh/Balvatika foundational milestones — pre-loaded. Teachers tap an observed milestone and add evidence in seconds on tablet or phone.
Photo & Video Evidence
Teachers capture in-the-moment evidence on the staff tablet: child stacking blocks, attempting to write their name, sharing toys, climbing the play structure. Photos compress automatically, parents see only their own child, and storage stays within school-controlled hosting per COPPA/GDPR-K (under-13).
Parent-Friendly Learning Journey
Each child has a digital learning journey — chronological feed of observations, photos, and milestones reached. Parents see weekly highlights via the parent app; full journey export at term end as a PDF keepsake. No exam grades, no rank, no comparison with peers.
Termly Progress Summaries (not "report cards")
Termly progress narrative auto-drafts from observation evidence: "Maya now matches 5 colors, uses 3-4 word sentences, and helps clean up unprompted." Teacher edits and signs off; parent receives in PDF. Aligned with NAEYC's "no standardized testing under 6" stance and the EYFS Profile.
Developmental Flagging
If a child consistently lags in a domain (e.g., gross-motor delays at 30 months), the system flags it to the lead teacher and SENCO/early-intervention coordinator. Early-intervention referrals (Part C in the US, EHC in the UK, RPwD in India) workflow built in.
Staff-Child Ratio & Group Observation
Preschools work in small groups; teachers observe 1:6 to 1:10. Group-observation mode lets a teacher tag multiple children on a single observation event (story time, outdoor play) without separate entry per child.

Ofsted EIF expects evidence-based observation against EYFS Early Learning Goals; Tapestry/Famly cost £6-£12/child/year; paper learning journals are time-consuming and Ofsted inspectors find gaps.
solutionPage.useCasesOutcomeLabel
EYFS-aligned observation captured on staff tablet, Ofsted-ready evidence portfolio, EYFS Profile generated from observation data at end of Reception year. Replaces Tapestry/Famly within an integrated nursery-management platform (admissions, fees, attendance, observation).

NAEYC standards expect observation-based formative assessment; CCMS/ChildPlus handles operations but not the rich documentation NAEYC accreditation requires; teachers paste photos into Word docs.
solutionPage.useCasesOutcomeLabel
NAEYC standard 4 (assessment of child progress) evidence portfolio per child, ready for accreditation visit. Used by 250+ NAEYC-accredited US preschools.

NEP-2020 mandates Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) for ages 3-8 with Vidya Pravesh (3 months) and Balvatika prep curriculum; private preschools (Eurokids, Footprints, Klay) and aided anganwadi need aligned tracking.
solutionPage.useCasesOutcomeLabel
NEP-2020 foundational-stage curriculum framework loaded; Vidya Pravesh, Balvatika 1-2-3 (foundational stage Grades 1-2), and FLN goal tracking; Hindi/Tamil/Marathi/Bangla parent communication. Aligns with NIPUN Bharat tracking.

Is observation-based assessment really enough — don't we need a "report card"?
NAEYC, the UK's EYFS framework, the OECD's "Starting Strong" series, and India's NEP-2020 all explicitly oppose standardized testing for children under 6 and instead require observation-based formative assessment. A photo-rich learning journey with milestone evidence is the appropriate "report" for a 3-year-old. Many preschools also produce a termly narrative summary that parents value more than a grade.
How does this handle child safeguarding and photo consent?
Photo consent is captured at admission (per child, per use type — internal portfolio, parent-shared, social-media-public). Photos are visible only to the child's own parents — never cross-family. School-controlled hosting (self-host option) keeps data inside the school's jurisdiction for COPPA/GDPR-K (under-13) compliance and local safeguarding regulations (UK KCSIE, US COPPA, India POCSO).
Can we run this alongside our nursery admissions and fees system?
openeducat_admission, openeducat_fees, openeducat_attendance, and openeducat_exam (preschool config) share the same student record. One login for the nursery owner; one app for parents (attendance, fees, learning journey). Eliminates the typical preschool stack of separate Tapestry/Famly + Procare/Brightwheel + Excel fee tracking.
What about reporting to regulators?
EYFS Profile export (UK), NAEYC accreditation evidence portfolio (US), Vidya Pravesh and FLN progress tracking (India NEP-2020 / NIPUN Bharat), and equivalent templates for South Africa (NCF), Australia (EYLF), and Singapore (NEL/Nurturing Early Learners) are pre-configured. Custom templates supported for jurisdictions outside this list.
