Parent Portal
One login shows every parent their child's attendance, grades, fees, library borrowings, and messages from teachers — with real-time alerts for absences, fee due dates, and school announcements. Bidirectional so teachers and parents communicate in context, not through WhatsApp chaos.
A parent portal is a web and mobile application that gives parents a single secure login to view their child's attendance, grades, fees, library borrowings, timetable, and teacher messages — and communicate directly with teachers and administrators. OpenEduCat's parent portal, shared with openeducat_core, replaces WhatsApp groups, physical diary notes, and the 4pm fee-clerk queue with one source of truth.

Unified View Across Every Child
Parents with multiple children at the same school (or across campuses in a group) see all children in one session. Switch between children with one tap. No separate logins, no lost credentials, no "which child are we looking at right now".
Real-Time Attendance & Absence Alerts
Absence alerts fire within 5 minutes via SMS, email, or WhatsApp Business API. The portal shows today's status, cumulative attendance percentage, and days remaining before the minimum threshold is breached. No more "why didn't you tell me my child missed school?" phone calls.
Grades, Report Cards & Exam Schedule
Report cards publish to the portal the day they are signed off. Exam schedules, hall tickets, and past performance trends are available from any device. Parents see grades in context — class average, subject trend over four terms, and teacher comments — not as a number out of nowhere.
Fee Visibility & Online Payment
See every fee head (tuition, transport, mess, hostel, exam, library fines), amounts due, payment history, and outstanding balance. Pay online via UPI, card, net banking, Apple/Google Pay. Receipts email immediately. End-of-year fee certificates export as PDF for tax claims (US 1098-T, Indian 80C/80E).
Bidirectional Teacher-Parent Messaging
Parents message the class teacher, subject teacher, or counsellor from inside the portal. Messages log against the student record — not scattered across staff WhatsApp. Teachers reply during working hours and get sensible boundaries; parents see read receipts and response SLAs.
Library, Hostel & Transport Visibility
What is your child reading? Did they board the bus this morning? Did they eat dinner in the hostel mess? The portal shows library borrowings, transport check-in, and (for boarders) hostel attendance alongside academics — one view of the whole school day.
COPPA-Aligned for Under-13 Students
For K-12 schools in the US, the portal enforces COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) defaults for students under 13: no external advertising, no behavioural tracking, parent consent captured at enrollment, and deletion rights honoured. Schools pass district COPPA reviews without add-on modules.
Announcements, Events & Consent Forms
Schools push announcements, event invitations, consent forms for trips and medical procedures, and newsletter issues. Parents sign consent digitally — no more paper slips lost in bags.

Teachers are on WhatsApp groups at 10pm, parent emails pile up unread, and COPPA compliance with under-13 students is uncertain with SaaS apps that log everything.
solutionPage.useCasesOutcomeLabel
Communication moves inside the portal with visible SLAs, COPPA controls are default-on, and teachers clock out at 5pm with clear boundaries. Absence alerts, grades, and fees consolidate into one app parents actually open.

Undergrad parents want transparency on fees, attendance, and exam results but the college SIS has no parent-facing app — parents call the office daily, and the fee-clerk queue is unmanageable.
solutionPage.useCasesOutcomeLabel
Parents self-serve on the portal, fee payment moves online 90%, and the admin office handles edge cases instead of routine queries. Attendance percentage visibility reduces late-term threshold surprises before exams.
solutionPage.useCasesChallengeLabel
WhatsApp is the parent-communication channel but broadcast groups have no audit trail, parents miss MoE-mandated bilingual announcements, and fee reconciliation with sponsors (HR departments, embassies) is manual.
solutionPage.useCasesOutcomeLabel
WhatsApp Business API pushes alerts into the channel parents already use, bilingual (Arabic/English) announcements go through one workflow, and sponsor-fee invoices generate with proper headers for HR reimbursement.

Is the parent portal free for parents?
Yes. Parents never pay to use the portal, on Community Edition or Enterprise. OpenEduCat's pricing is per staff user ($19/month on Enterprise); students, parents, and alumni are always included at no cost. This is a structural choice — a parent portal has value only if every parent uses it, and per-parent pricing breaks that incentive.
Can parents with multiple children see them all in one login?
Yes. Parents are linked to each child as a guardian in the student record. One login shows every child, and parents switch between children with one tap. In multi-company / consortium mode, parents with children at different campuses in the same education group see all of them from one session.
Does it integrate with WhatsApp for Indian and MENA schools?
Yes. WhatsApp Business API integration pushes absence alerts, fee reminders, exam schedules, and announcements into the channel parents already use. You supply the WhatsApp Business Solution Provider (BSP) subscription (roughly $50/month); OpenEduCat handles the template management and delivery. For schools in markets where WhatsApp dominates parent communication (India, MENA, parts of LatAm, Africa) this is often the most impactful single feature of the portal.
Is it COPPA-compliant for US K-12 schools?
Yes. For students under 13, the portal enforces COPPA defaults: no external behavioural advertising, parent consent captured at enrollment (and renewable), data deletion rights, and no third-party data sharing outside the school's own integrations. US K-12 districts pass COPPA reviews without additional modules. Note: COPPA applies to child-directed services; the school, not OpenEduCat, is the data controller, and the portal provides the mechanisms a school needs to comply.
Can parents pay fees online through the portal?
Yes. Payment gateways cover UPI, debit/credit cards, net banking, Apple Pay, Google Pay, and regional options (Stripe, Razorpay, PayTabs, Telr, Paystack, MercadoPago, Flutterwave). Receipts email immediately and post to the student ledger. Fee certificates for tax claims (US 1098-T, Indian 80C/80E, equivalent in other countries) export as PDF at year-end.
How is bidirectional messaging different from WhatsApp groups?
WhatsApp groups have no audit trail, blur teacher-student-parent boundaries, run 24/7 without SLA, and are uncomfortable with safeguarding inspection. Portal messaging logs every exchange against the student record, has working-hour SLA windows, is reviewable by a head teacher or safeguarding lead, and restricts one-to-one teacher-student messaging per school policy. Teachers get their evenings back; schools pass safeguarding audits.
